THE DEMO and WORKSHOP

“Color Harmony – Creating Exciting Color

“Low Tide”

“I will illustrate how I establish color harmony, how I create Exciting color. I will describe 3 basic types of design, how to separate foreground and background, and how I use edges to suggest texture. The demonstration will be a collection of several demonstrations. These include landscape as well as figure paintings. All the visuals for these demonstrations are prerecorded. My dialogue won’t be. With the video prerecorded, I will jump from one demonstration to another, from one segment to another, and from one problem to another, to illustrate different techniques and principles. I will be able to speed forward or go back to revisit principles as questions come up.“

Workshop Supply List

“Blazing Light”

A set of soft pastels: Include earth colors such as umbers, siennas, and ochers. Try to have a dark, middle, and light value of each of your colors. If you have a small set, you may want to add to it by buying dark and light values of some of the colors in the set. Most small sets have a good selection of middle values, but not many dark or light sticks. Two pieces of paper should be enough. Avoid white paper. For landscape I suggest using a warm colored paper such as yellow ocher.
A drawing board: I use a piece of 1/8 inch masonite, 18 x 22 inches.
Masking tape: to hold the paper in place on the drawing board.
An apron, or smock: Pastel is a dusty media. Avoid wearing good clothes. An apron is advised.
Landscape photos References: You need a photo to use as the subject for your painting in the workshop. I recommend a photo with strong contrast.
