DEMONSTRATIONS

Our bi-monthly Zoom Demonstrations give you the opportunity to build your creative tool chest in the comfort of your home!

Demonstrations are conducted online and are FREE for APS members.

  • Guest artists demonstrate on the 2nd Saturday of odd-numbered months following the member meeting.

  • The Demonstration is proceeded by our online Member Meeting at 10am which includes an introduction about the guest artist.

  • Members automatically receive an email invite to the Member Meeting and Demonstration on Zoom.

  • The guest artist will create one or two pastel paintings during their hour-and-a-half Demonstration.

  • A video camera is positioned 1 to 2 feet away from the guest artist’s painting - allowing you to see their developing image in great detail.

  • A broad range of creative subjects are covered during our programs: Art Theory, Creative Influences, Materials, Pastels, and an amazing array of challenges faced by pastel painters!

  • During the Demonstration you have opportunities to ask questions.

Demonstrations end at 12:00. In the afternoon the guest artist holds a paint-a-long workshop!

FOCUS ON FLOWERS w/Gary Rupp

  • Saturday, May 9, 2026

  • Following the 10am online Member Meeting

  • Free to APS Members ~ current members receive a Zoom link to the Meeting and Demo via email.

Flowers are one of the most delicate subjects an artist can tackle. Hence, I think there are as many styles in which to paint flowers as there are flowers themselves. My approach will be to focus on four main elements: Movement, mystery, glow and color temperature. Each of these contribute in a unique way to the overall painting. Flowers are obviously very delicate and I have found these four elements work well in trying to capture that delicacy and convey it to the viewer.
