WORKSHOPS
Our bi-monthly online Workshops give you the opportunity to paint along with the artist!
Workshops are conducted on Zoom. They are open to APS members who register and pay a nominal fee.
~ Guest artist Workshops are held on the 2nd Saturday of odd-numbered months at 1:00 pm EST.
~ The Workshop is proceeded by our online Member Meeting at 10am, a guest artist Demonstration following the meeting, and an hour long break.
~ The guest artist creates one or two pastel paintings during the three hour online Workshop. Participants are encouraged to paint along.
~ Attendees receive a materials list and reference photo several days before the workshop.
~ Painting subjects vary from workshop to workshop and may include: Landscapes, Figures, Portraits, and Still Life Arrangements.
~ Assorted information will be covered as the guest artist paints: In-Depth Discussion of Materials, Info on Hard and Soft Pastels, Aspects of Art Theory, and Techniques for handling specific painting challenges.
~ A video camera is positioned 1 to 2 feet away from the guest artist’s painting - this allows you to see details of their techniques and close-ups of their developing image.
~ You can ask questions and get feedback as both you, your fellow APS workshop attendees, and the guest artist work create.
~ This adds depth and critical context to the information you receive on the guest artists inspiration and influences, as well as their approaches and methods.
~ If there is time, there may be a critique of the work created during the session. Participation is voluntary.
GREAT FACES: LIFE IN YOUR PASTELS w/Luana Luconi Winner
Saturday, January 10, 2026 ~ 1:30 - 4:30
You must be a current APS member to attend.
Fee: $60
We begin with a quick review of the basics of facial anatomy and proportions from child to adult. Exercises about the color of people of the world will follow. Wet and dry applications will be demonstrated as options to planning color layers. A Bouguereau reference photo will be sent for those who wish to follow along. However, artists may choose to work from their own reference material. The image chosen could be rendered in smooth blended strokes or interpreted in strong, active strokes. Giving these ideas a try will give you the confidence to interpret the next Great Faces you see.
