Morning Demo – “Painting Clouds and Skies in Pastel”

The focus of this demo will be making a landscape with a dynamic sky. We will explore ways of painting clouds and weather that add movement and energy to your pastel. Painting the changing weather or an approaching storm can be used to create a mood, or to express emotion and drama in your painting, or to simply add interesting visual and compositional elements to your pastel through cloud patterns and shapes.
Afternoon Workshop – “Painting Bold Skies In Pastel”
In the workshop we will be doing a landscape with a dynamic, interesting sky. We will work on various cloud shapes, and talk about the different types of clouds, the lighting of clouds that’s dependent on the sun’s position, the use of warm and cool colors in the highlights and shading of the clouds, using negative space painting to “cut around” clouds, losing and softening certain edges, and reinforcing other edges to make a believable sky, and putting all this together to make a powerful design and tells a compelling story.
Workshop cost is $60.00
